What's the deal with smart phones?

On September 22nd after many years of waiting we finally saw the first smartphone (see Wikipedia) with an English interface in Japan - the HTC X02HT from Softbank.

Smartphones can be a huge productivity boost for people who are on the move a lot. Get your email, surf the web, sync your phone contacts and calendar with your PC and much more.

I've been a big fan of Windows Mobile (which is the main OS for smart phones in Japan at least until we see the iPhone here sometime next year?) for about 6 years. The X02HT is a small device with a small QWERTY keyboard. I prefer the larger touch screen devices like the X01HT and the soon to be released X01T, but unfortunately these do not yet come with an English interface (unless you want to spend time hacking them which is not for the faint-hearted and of course not supported by Softbank). DoCoMo will start flat rate plans from Oct. 22 so you will be able to buy a device that supports the Japanese network over overseas and use it in Japan with a DoCoMo SIM.

If you are interesting in learning more check out the Windows Mobile in Japan blog or Yahoo! Group.

At Customers, Vendors, People I help companies to connect with top quality vendors, of business services. Whatever you are looking for - a new web site, training, consulting, property, staff or anything else - let us know.

I promise to provide some good and honest advice about the vendors out there and do what I can to connect you with the right people.

The CVP newsletter is sent out to friends, colleagues, people I have recently met, and people who signed up from my personal web site or the CVP site. I use a service by WebSoftTT to send the mail and track link clicks so I know what people are interested in. If you don't want to receive the newsletter or would like your address updating, just reply and let me know.
